yo.
so, this week, big fun. wednesday, we meet up at 5:30 at Whole Foods. we'll run down to Austin High, run drills, then run either a two-mile time trial, or another track workout, depending on where you are with your running, and your goals.
for those of us training for a half marathon, the time trial is going to give us a better baseline to figure out your ideal paces over various distances. i'll explain how that works later. all you need to know now is that you'll be cranking out two miles on the track, as fast as you can. trust me, it sucks, but it's kind of cool. i've found that it's one way that runners really learn to push their boundaries.
then Saturday, we're doing eight miles again, but this time, we're tackling Mount Bonnell. if you're not up to eight miles, we'll have shorter options that will run some nice parts of the same route. Paul is talking some smack about climbing the stairs to the top of the mount after running up the road to it. we'll check back in with him when he gets there.
i haven't heard from some of you guys in a while - give me a shout.

One of Austin's oldest tourist attractions, Mount Bonnell is also one of the highest points in the city—there is an incredible view of Lake Austin and the downtown skyline right by the picnic tables. Legend has it that the 99 steps to the top hold enchanting qualities: if a couple climbs the mount once, they fall in love; twice, and they become engaged; three times, and they are destined to be married.
I'll say right now that I am NOT climbing the 99 stairs with Paul.

hmm... well, paul aside, i'm going to put the water cooler on top. you know... for the ladies. giggity!
but seriously, i think i logged four or five first kisses on mount bonnell, back in the dizzle. i think the combination of the climb and the thinner air up top was in my favor...
yeah youll probably be too winded to even consider reaching the top ;)
ohhhhhhhhh SNAP! paul is talking smack! but clarify - you talkin' smack to chuck or me?
So did anybody get heat stroke at your time trials last night?
How'd it go? What were your times?
it was wicked hot. yo. amanda, paul and i ran the time trial, and the heat definitely stifled performance. i stand by the predictions i made for paul and amanda - i think they can both run it under 19 or 19:30, but it was their first time running like that, and i know they got bogged down along the way.
i ran a 16:18, which is 27 seconds slower than my best, which was not even as good as it should be. i think i should be running it about a minute faster, ideally. i had this weird sensation of like, this heavy, undulating weight around my midsection... then there was the wheezing...
well I think those are decent times. y'all should have a specific PR for 94 degree heat index, high humidity, etc... running your fastest in that as compared to a cool fall evening is a big difference. your body is working so much harder to get oxygen in this humidity.
so congrats to y'all for your HH TT PR!
(hh is high humidity)
